Wildfire Forces Thousands to Evacuate Jasper National Park
Intense Flames Threaten Town of Jasper

A raging wildfire in Alberta's Jasper National Park has forced over 25,000 people to flee, including all residents of the town of Jasper. The flames have already consumed up to half of the town, located about 370 kilometers (230 miles) west of Edmonton in the province of Alberta. The park and the town are popular tourist destinations, attracting over two million visitors annually. Parks Canada has warned of increased fire behavior due to high and gusty winds, and the flames continue to spread rapidly through the park.
