Betonrausch: A Dark Comedy About the Berlin Property Market
High-Rise Hustle and Heartbreak
Ready to do anything to get rich, a young man upends the Berlin property market with his shady pal - until the good times threaten to destroy it all.
Betonrausch, a German comedy from 2020, follows the story of Viktor (David Kross) and Gerry (Frederick Lau), two friends who scheme to make a quick buck by exploiting the Berlin property market. They buy up rundown buildings, renovate them, and then sell them for a profit.
At first, their plan works well. They make a lot of money and Viktor becomes engaged to the beautiful Sophia (Emily Goss). But as they become more successful, they also become more reckless. They start taking on more and more debt, and they begin to cut corners on their renovations.
Eventually, their luck runs out. The Berlin property market crashes, and their empire collapses. Viktor and Gerry lose everything, including their friendship and their dreams. Betonrausch is a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed and the importance of friendship.
